Kansas City man, 21, charged in fatal shooting on Amtrak train last month

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

A Kansas City man who was arrested after a police standoff Monday night has been charged in the fatal shooting on an Amtrak train last month.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Marquise L. Webb, 21, was charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, vehicle hijacking and two counts of armed criminal action.

Richie T. Aaron was fatally shot Jan. 14, while the train was in Lee’s Summit.

According to court records, Lee’s Summit police were alerted to an armed carjacking behind Konrad’s in Lee’s Summit. About the same time, police also were alerted to a shooting on the Amtrak train and that the suspected shooter had left the train in Lee’s Summit.

The train continued on to Independence, where Aaron was pronounced dead.

On Monday night, Lee’s Summit and Kansas City police executed a search warrant at a Kansas City apartment. According to court documents, police said they saw Webb attempting to leave from the apartment’s rear leading to a standoff.

After more than four hours, authorities said Webb surrendered peacefully.
